Veteran songwriter Diane Warren made the cardinal mistake of criticizing Beyoncé’s writer credits, taking to Twitter to air her grievances.
Veteran songwriter Diane Warren has gotten herself into some pretty hot water. The 65-year-old made a mistake you’d think everyone knows better than to make: criticizing Beyoncé.
In a tweet, Warren questioned why the singer credited 24 writers on one of the songs on her newly released album, Renaissance, Vulture reports.
“How can there be 24 writers on a song?” she asked Twitter.
How can there be 24 writers on a song?🙄

Even though she shared in the comments that the question wasn’t meant to “shade,” and that she was just “curious,” it was too late.
The-Dream replied to the 65-year-old about her ill-advised tweet.
“You mean how’s does our (Black) culture have so many writers, well it started because we couldn’t afford certain things starting out,so we started sampling and it became an Artform, a major part of the Black Culture (hip hop) in America.Had that era not happen who knows. U good?” he tweeted.

Warren backpedaled after being criticized for her comments, saying she “didn’t mean that as an attack or as disrespect. I didn’t know this, thank U for making me aware of it. No need to be mean about it.”
Not pleased with her response, The-Dream continued his clapback.
“Btw I know it’s not a one on one writing contest you looking for from no one over here…… you don’t want that smoke And you know I love you, but come on. Stop acting like your records haven’t been sampled,” he also wrote.

According to Vulture, Warren has written multiple chart-topping hits, including Beyoncé’s 2011 hit, “I Was Here.”
