The 2019 NBA Draft had many surprises, but no one could anticipate the young NBA stars' lack of pop culture knowledge.
Most people would place the 1990s as one of the greatest decades for pop culture. There was Power Rangers, Sister, Sister, Destiny's Child, Tupac and so much more. However, for the youngsters of today, these pop culture figures are nearly unrecognizable relics. ESPN quizzed Coby White, Rui Hachimura, P.J. Washington and few other draftees on some of the most iconic music groups, video games, TV shows and movies in their "Name The 90's" digital segment.
Sadly, they all failed spectacularly. They couldn't identify hip-hop super duo Outkast, the Easy Bake Oven or even Destiny's Child. One of the young players mistaked the superstar girl group for the Cheetah Girls.
We took "Name the 90's" to the #NBADraft and these NBA players are WAY younger than you thought ???? pic.twitter.com/e4aJ5hkag0

The biggest strike against them was not knowing who Beyoncé was before her solo career. Twitter, of course, could not let them live it down.
Most of them were born in 2000 and one dude in 1999.
Sorry Ms Jackson was on the Stankonia album released in 2000.
Sooo I could see how they missed OutKast .
???????????? funny but truth be told it shows you how fast the yrs have gone by .

Nope, no excuse will be accepted! ???? I knew of good music that came out 20 years before I was born when I was just a kid, and now, so do my own kids! Good music is timeless…

The average age of the rookie class is roughly 19 years old. Even though they are bit wet behind the ears, the draftees have no real excuse when everyone has access to personal computers in their pockets.
