Prom is a pretty big deal for a lot of high schoolers: what are you going to wear, how are you going to prom-pose to your prospective date, but most importantly who is going to be your date to the dance? For Florida teen Mikal Bartosik, who has already gone to prom twice, her choice was clear; she wanted Jonathan, the 18yo senior with autism, to be her date to the formal in April.

After spending lunch periods with Jonathan, she realized how badly he wanted to go to the prom and thought that she would do something different this year; especially seeing as none of the special education students went to prom last year. Her family and friends were skeptical about the idea, but she says, “Personally, I think this is going to be the most special prom for me because I’ll be making someone else happy.”

Happy indeed as evident by Jonathan’s enthusiasm on receiving his cookie cake prom-posal!
