Many parents would love to relive their college days, but few can match the skill of Lia Davila, a 48-year-old mom living in Woodbridge, Connecticut, who went viral this week for her epic TikTok performance.

Davila spoke with BuzzFeed about the complicated dance routine that shot her into social media stardom when her 16-year-old son posted a recording of her on TikTok.

"I'II teach and I do a little something sometimes. [But] I haven't performed like that in many years. I surprised myself. The choreography was off the top of my head, and we did one take because I had to lay down right afterward," she joked.

Davila's epic dance performance is actually a routine she learned while she was a member of Morris Brown College's drumline dance team, Bubblin Brown Sugar in 1989.

She now teaches dance at a studio, but it has been shut down since measures were put in place to contain the coronavirus. While sitting at home bored, she and her teenage son decided to put the video together on a whim, underestimating how much people online would love it.

"I told my mom that she could dance to a drumbeat I found because she owns a dance studio that’s currently closed and we had nothing else to do. I never thought she could hold up her weight in the air. But I don't expect that trick from any 40-year-old. So when my 48-year-old mom did that I was shocked and speechless," the 16-year-old told BuzzFeed.

The video has more than 100,000 likes on TikTok and took on a new life when it made it on to Twitter where it was viewed 1.3 million times.

Online, thousands of people commented about how fun it was to see parents and their kids connecting over hidden talents during the quarantine.

The split at the end drove Davila's new fans wild, with many noting they couldn't pull off anything similar.

Alive11 spoke with Davila about the video and shared that the mom of eight fell in love with dance from her time in Atlanta.

"I'm gone be honest with you. I have a dance school, I teach dance but I'm really out of shape. Really out of shape," she said while laughing.

She went into more detail about how she got into dance, saying her time in Atlanta is what got her interested in dance in the first place.

"Because you guys do that in the south. We didn't do that up here, so it was very impactful — stayed with me. I love band music. I absolutely lose my mind when I hear it, so I just did it," she said.

She added that her son was surprised to see her pull off so many moves, which was why he had such a surprised face in the video.

While she was surprised by her viral fame, she said she was just glad to spend time with her kids and share a little something with them.

"This whole viral thing has been surprising and I'm grateful. And happy for [Josiah]. It's really lifted our spirits as a family," she told BuzzFeed.
