The 39th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival has announced its closing night gala selection, along with 59 other feature films that were officially named today, Tuesday. 

Among the always impressive slate of high-profile films making their world premieres at the festival, are a few that we’ve been tracking on this blog, including Omar Sy’s reteaming with his "Intouchables" directors – Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano – for a drama titled "Samba," which Sy of course stars in, alongside Charlotte Gainsbourg, Tahar Rahim and Izya Higelin. 

Plot details on the Gaumont/Quad/Ten co-production had been being kept under-wraps – other than the filmmakers calling it "a crowdpleaser, an ensemble comedy about friendship, solidarity and deals with current issues we can relate to in different parts of the world.” But thanks to TIFF, we can add the following: Sy plays a recent migrant to France who’s fighting to stay in his adopted country, with the help of a rookie immigration worker. 

The $20 million film is just one of a handful of new projects on Sy’s slate, including a thriller co-starring James Franco and Kate Hudson titled "Good People;" Stephen Gaghan’s crime drama "The Candy Store;" Michel Gondry’s "Mood Indigo;" a biopic on Rafael Padilla – a former Cuban-born slave, who became the first black artist in France during the Belle Epoque era – and more.
