Toya Graham is memorable as the mother seen in a 2015 viral video pulling her son away from the Baltimore uprising in the wake of Freddie Gray’s mysterious death. Now, the mother and son are making headlines for a different reason.

The single mother was left homeless on Saturday. Her son, Michael Singleton, was frying chicken tenders and accidentally started a house fire when he left them unattended. In an interview with Fox45 News in Baltimore Michael said, “I had stepped away to the bathroom real quick. When I got back, there was smoke and fire coming from the pan.”

Graham, who moved her family into the home just two months ago, expressed her frustration. “I’m tired of the struggle, I feel broken,” she said. “You try to hold on because you try to do everything, you try to be strong for your children. You try, but this is a lot.”

The family did not have renters insurance. A GoFundMe page with donations to assist the family has surpassed its $5,000 goal with nearly $57,000.
