Twitter is officially saying goodbye to the platform’s fleets, which were either short videos, text or pictures that could be uploaded by users. The elements were then scheduled to disappear after a 24-hour period, similar to Instagram’s stories.

Although the platform announced the feature would no longer be available, some users made it clear they are not ready to bid farewell to the feature. In honor of the feature being removed, Twitter suggested #Fleetnik become an annual holiday, with fleets making an appearance for 24 hours on Aug. 2.

As #Fleetnik trended on Twitter, users celebrated its last 24 hours posting explicit content. As expected, users posted videos of ultimate thirst traps and their birthday suits during the midnight hour.

The Twitter-made holiday was named as a play on the annual spring break festival in Atlanta called Freaknik back in the '90s. It was announced in June, however, that the 18 and older festival would make a return at Morris Brown College in October, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Anticipating the content on fleets on its last day, some people suggested the urgency to click into the feature.

Others found humor in Twitter's creative ability.

On July 14, Twitter announced in a blog post that it would discontinue the use of fleets because the feature wasn’t widely used since its introduction in Nov. 2020.

“In the time since we introduced Fleets to everyone, we haven’t seen an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation with Fleets like we hoped. Because of this, on August 3, Fleets will no longer be available on Twitter,” the statement read.
