It's a sad day for the hip-hop community as Houston rapper Big T, who is best known for singing the hook on Lil’ Troy’s 1999 hit “Wanna Be a Baller,” has died at the age of 52.
Born Terence Prejean, Big T passed away Monday, May 7, in a Houston hospital. According to the Associated Press, his death was confirmed by Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences spokeswoman Tricia Bentley. While his official cause of death has not yet been revealed, longtime friend and fellow rapper Tiger T said Big T may have had a heart attack.
Big T earned his nickname "Million Dollar Hook Man" for his gift of dope hooks, choruses and other musical contributions. His sister, Ann Prejean, spoke with the Associated Press on Tuesday revealing that she and her brother were raised in a musical family with a father who was a drummer.
Best known for his work on the projects of other artists, Big T released his own bodies of work including Million Dollar Hooks. According to the Houston Chronicle, the Houston rapper was able to sell 15,000 copies of his first album via word of mouth in Houston.
His passing has been felt throughout the Texas community. Fellow Houston rappers including Paul Wall, Lil Flip and Slim Thug took to social media to pay their respects.
