One of my absolute favorite films of the past decade is the 2002 Brazilian film, City of God, directed by Fernando Meirelles and Katia Lund.

However, it was Meirelles who got all the credit for the film, as well as the huge international filmmaking career; while Lund was practically forgotten.

How that happened, I don't know.

Was it because she was a woman, or Meirelles had a better press agent, or both? Who knows?

But it's a film that I can watch over and over and over again; and I have done just that, and more. And every time I see it I find something new. It's a powerful and compelling story told with a incredibly inventive visual sweep. It is virtuoso filmmaking at its peak.

I'm surprised that it's been an entire decade since the film came out. Where do the days go? 

And I've also wondered what happened to those young extraordinary actors in the film.

Well, there's a new documentary that was supposed to come out later this year, that deals with just that, and it's called City of God: 10 Years Later. 

Perhaps it still will be released by the end of this year, or maybe it's been pushed back until next year.
