Former NFL player Kellen Winslow Jr., who is the son of NFL Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow Sr., was arrested in the San Diego area Thursday, June 7, after a resident called the police on him with suspicions of burglary. Winslow Jr., who was once offered a $40 million contract, reportedly said he was looking for a home for his mother-in-law through his publicist, according to an NBC News report.

According to a San Diego County Sheriff's Department report, officers responded to a call from a resident of the Park Encinitas Mobile Home Park at approximately 2:39 p.m. for suspicions of burglary. The resident indicated they saw a black male allegedly walking into a neighbor's residence. The neighbor reported not to recognize the man who was later identified as Winslow Jr. After the neighbor confronted Winslow Jr., he reportedly left the home. Officers then checked the area for a matching description of Winslow Jr. and his vehicle. After Winslow Jr. was "positively identified," he was arrested for residential burglary.

In an interview with local ABC 10 News, the neighbor, an elderly white woman, said she confronted Winslow Jr. asking him, "…Hi, can I help you with anything?" She said the former NFL player reportedly calmly told her he was looking for his red dog named Clifford. She then said she wasn't "comfortable" and asked him to leave the area.

Winslow Jr.'s publicist, Denise White of EAG Sport Management, reportedly told NBC that Winslow Jr. does indeed have a dog, but he was sarcastic when the neighbor began questioning him on why he was there.

"An over reactive neighbor called police after she saw Kellen walking around a mobile home," White said in an email to NBC.

According to NBC, White also said Winslow Jr. was shopping for a home for his mother-in-law, and he allegedly never went inside. She also added the residence belongs to church friends of Winslow Jr.'s wife.

Winslow Jr.'s attorney, Harvey A. Steinberg, reportedly released the following statement on the arrest:

"Mr. Winslow emphatically denies committing any burglary. He would have no need to burglarize or steal anything from anyone at a trailer park. He looks forward to being vindicated once this matter is fully investigated and adjudicated through the court system."

According to ABC 10 News, Winslow posted a $50,000 bail early Friday morning after being booked into custody at the Vista Detention Facility.
