On this day last year we woke up to devastating news. We learned that our beloved Prince had transitioned to a life beyond the physical realm and purple tears were shed all across the world. Beyond being arguably the most profound and ingenious artist of our time, we loved Prince because he was…well, Prince. Along with the alluring and provocative public image he displayed, he created music that transcended race, gender, age, income or any label that generalized or divided us. Few artist—or public figures—have been able to reach Prince’s level of success, and few probably ever will. 

In addition to having the seemingly perfect package, Prince was/is the undisputed king of shade. We never had to guess what he was thinking as those classic and unforgettable facial expressions gave us everything we needed…and then some.
