On January 5th, Scholastics published a children’s book by Ramin Ganeshram that garnered many side-eyes, to say the very least. But by January 17th, A Birthday Cake for George Washington was pulled with the publisher stating that the book provides, “a false impression of the reality of the lives of slaves.”
Luckily for me, I read the book hours before it was pulled. And while I was prepared to throw my side-eye at the author and editor, I guess Scholastics beat me to the side-eye TKO. The book is off the shelves.
