This past weekend, 5-year-old TyLon Pittman of Jackson, Mississippi saved his fellow kids from a sad Christmas by bringing the Grinch to justice.
On Saturday, TyLon called 911 to report the Grinch's crimes to local police, alleging that the creature was attempting to steal presents from children before Christmas. Unbeknownst to his family, the police arrived in a hurry to Tylon's home. His mom, TeResa Pittman, and his brother, TeDera Dwayne Graves, heard Byram Police Officer Lauren Develle knocking on the door, reports The Clarion-Ledger.
"Our dispatcher posted a status on Facebook that she had received a call from a little boy … and he told her he thought the Grinch was going to be coming to steal his Christmas," Develle said. "I asked her to send me his address."
TyLon's brother, who is home from the air force, decided to post a video of his little brother's call to the police on Facebook.
"I can NOT make this up!!!" he posted. "My 5-year-old brother called the police and said that the Grinch is stealing people's Christmas and he don't want him to steal his, so they really came to our house!"
A few days after the call, the Byram Police Department set up a scenario to put TyLon at ease.
"I'm going to say put your hands behind your back and get down on the ground, then when he gets on the ground, I'm gonna say, 'Why are you stealing Christmas?' " he said.
On Monday, TyLon got his wish and arrested the Grinch. The 5-year-old honorary police officer took the Grinch into custody, booking the green-furred villain on charges that included the attempted theft of Christmas. TyLon then put the Grinch in a holding cell, saving Christmas for all the little boys and girls around the world.
"Come here, Ty," the Grinch said during the arrest. Taking the boy's hand in a handshake, he said: "You have saved Christmas for the people of Byram. Your bravery is unmatched. You have saved the day."
