Surveillance video footage from a May incident involving a Palm Tran bus driver and a racist rider who went way too far has recently been circulating the internet.

CBS12 reports, on May 13, a white rider engaged in a bus fare dispute with the black bus driver, which reportedly ended in a racial slur, "n****r" to be specific. And the verbal abuse went on for 15 minutes, including threats.

The bus driver tried his best to warn the rider, according to the union which represents Palm Tran bus drivers.

“You call me n****r one more time! You call me n****r one more time, and I’m gonna (inaudible) your (expletive)!”, the bus driver reportedly yelled at the rider.

And then the point of no return happened. The rider spat on the bus driver.

At that point, the bus driver hit the brakes and started punching the rider.

“Emotionally the driver lost it, and reacted in self-defense as well as reacted to being spit upon,” Dwight Mattingly, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1577, said.

The company fired the bus driver for his actions, but his union doesn't believe he deserved the termination and suggested re-training instead. The union may be moving forward to appeal the decision.
