Dr. Adwoafuaa Nwokocha, MD

Dr. Adwoafuaa Nwokocha, MD

Adwoafuaa Nwokocha is a board-certified physician, writer, and mother of five based in Houston, Texas. A first-generation Ghanaian-American and graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, she has spent her life defying expectations—both in the operating room and in the courtroom. With a career built on compassion, discipline, and the pursuit of excellence, Dr. Nwokocha is no stranger to navigating high-pressure environments. But her greatest test came not in medicine, but in motherhood. After becoming entangled in a years-long custody battle, she was forced to confront not just personal betrayal but a family court system that too often fails to protect working mothers—especially those of color. Her debut memoir, Custody MD: Fighting for the Woo, offers an unflinching account of that experience. Told with clarity, courage, and emotional depth, the book is both a personal reckoning and a public call for justice. Dr. Nwokocha is passionate about family court reform, women’s rights, and mental health advocacy for survivors of abuse. She continues to practice medicine while raising her children and using her voice to support others who feel unseen and unheard in their own legal and personal battles.
