Shadow and Act has an exclusive clip from behind-the-scenes of A Journal for Jordan.
In the clip, discover how director Denzel Washington decided Chanté Adams would be the perfect Dana Canedy.
In a prior interview with S&A, Adams talked about working with Canedy on the portrayal.
“She made herself available and open to me from day one,” she said. “From our first conversation she just told me, ‘I’m an open book, you can ask me anything you want, no matter how personal.’”
Adams took advantage of that advice and over time developed a close relationship with Canedy.
“I took advantage of [her offer], but tried to be mindful of her time towards the beginning,” she continued. “But by the time that we started filming, I was probably on the phone with her every day and I was just like ‘this woman has a full-time job,’ but she always made time for me so I was very grateful for that.”
The film is based on the true story of Sergeant Charles Monroe King (Michael B. Jordan), “a soldier deployed to Iraq who begins to keep a journal of love and advice for his infant son. Back at home, senior New York Times editor Dana Canedy (Adams) revisits the story of her unlikely, life-altering relationship with King and his enduring devotion to her and their child. A sweeping account of a once-in-a-lifetime love, the film is a powerful reminder of the importance of family and the all-too-human cost of war.”
A Journal for Jordan will be available on Digital Feb. 22 and Blu-ray March 8.
