Former Charleston, South Carolina teacher Jennifer Olajire-Aro reportedly used grades to manipulate a 17-year-old student into sleeping with her.

According to the Post and Courier, the Olajire-Aro taught pre-calculus and algebra and worked as a tennis coach at Burke High School prior to this incident. The first year teacher is married and has a young child. A former student of hers alleged she flirted with him and conducted inappropriate conversations.

According to a lawsuit filed by the victim and his mother on Thursday, the 27-year-old educator encouraged and coerced the student, identified as John Doe, to have sex in several locations including her car, home and in front of her 10-month-old child.

“Each time Plaintiff John Doe would dismiss Aro’s advances and requests to perform sexual intercourse with her, Aro would remind Plaintiff John Doe that she alone controlled what grade he would receive in her class,” the lawsuit states.

Olajire-Aro was arrested Dec. 19 after the student resisted her and she consequently “acted on her threat and changed Plaintiff John Doe’s math grade from a 98 to an 89.”

"The student notified school officials of the inappropriate relationship, which lasted several months," Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis said."The incidents occurred off campus."

There were also multiple messages via phone and social media proving she took advantage of the student.

For several months, the student would be forced to maintain the inappropriate relationship, reports Live 5 News. She would continue to use her position of power to keep him from exposing her intentions to school officials. The lawsuit states the student would skip class just to avoid her and his peers when her advances became overt and “public, direct and obvious.”

The victim and his family are seeking a jury trial and a judgment for damages, including medical and health care expenses.
