Finally! More will get to see it. I will get to see it, because I never had the opportunity to do so.

blacktino is the first feature film from writer/director Aaron Burns, a self-described “blacktino nerd from Austin, Texas,” who got his start at Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios doing visual effects on films like Grindhouse, and Machete.

Synopsis:

blacktino is a dark teen comedy about an overweight black Latino nerd named Stefan Daily, who was raised by his African American grandmother in a medium-sized suburb of Austin, TX. Struggling to find his place in a mostly white high school, Stefan finds sanctuary among the eclectic mix of social outcasts in the school’s Theatre Department.”

Newcomer Austin Marshall stars as Stefan, and he’s surrounded by a cast that includes a few familiar names/faces, like Danny Trejo and Jeff Fahey.

The film made its worldwide debut at the 2011 South By Southwest Film Festival, which S&A didn't attend, so we missed it. 

It then played a precious few more film festivals that year, and seemingly vanished. Digging through the S&A archives, we didn't write about it at all in all of 2012. It was never acquired for a theatrical release. In fact, it wasn't acquired for home video release either.

Skip ahead to over a year later, when, this afternoon, I was alerted to a Facebook post on the film's Facebook page saying that the film was now available on iTunes. I checked for the distribution company's name and it lists a Fist Pick Films, LLC.

The film is available for rent ($4.99/HD) or purchase ($12.99/HD) on iTunes (or you could get it for cheaper in SD). So, if you're interested in seeing the film, here's an opportunity.

I should watch it some time this week.
