Continuing on with pre-festival coverage of the upcoming American Black Film Festival which runs from June 20 to 23…

Here's a documentary in this year's lineup that should excite many of you, given the subject matter: the R&B vocal group, that was formed in 1981 in Staten Island, New York – The Force MDs.

How many of you started singing, humming, or whistling Tender Love just now? "Ooohh that was my jam girl," I can hear some of you saying right now 🙂

Titled The Force MDs Relived, and directed by Frazier Prince, the doc is described as…

… an entertaining and illuminating film, that presents an enlightening account of the early years of rap music and tells how a young MC crew from Staten Island, NY became the innovators of Hip Hop, Doo Wop Soul.

So it's like a biopic in documentary form. I'd actually like to see this.

The trailer really needs to be recut though (watch it for yourselves below). Maybe there's another better one out there that I don't know about (I searched). 

I also found a Facebook page for it that shows a few screenings of the film going back over the last year. So some of you may have already seen it.

But for those heading over to South Beach, FL for the 2012 installment of the ABFF, put it on your to-see list.
