Alfre Woodard has joined the cast of the upcoming spin-off to last year’s horror movie blockbuster, The Conjuring, titled Annabelle.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson starred in the first movie as a pair of paranormal investigators who come to the assistance of a family experiencing increasingly disturbing events in their house in Rhode Island in 1971.
The film was a box office success, grossing over $313 million worldwide from its $20 million budget.
In June 2013, it was reported that New Line Cinema was already developing a sequel as well as a spin-off film, which will feature Annabelle the possessed Doll from the first film, hence the title.
Shooting began this week in Los Angeles, with John Leonetti, the cinematographer on The Conjuring, directing from a script by Gary Dauberman. Peter Safran and The Conjuring director James Wan.
No word on what role exactly Alfre Woodard has signed up to play.
The veteran and woefully underused actress can currently be seen in 12 Years a Slave. A year ago, she revealed that she was bringing the life of Fannie Lou Hamer to the small screen in what she said would be a 4-hour film, broken up into 2 parts.
