After nine years, Amerie has returned the music scene to bestow patient fans with a surprise double album.

The new mom’s last full-length album In Love & War was released in 2009. Although she hadn't been putting out music, she certainly kept herself busy editing the New York Times' best-selling anthology Because You Love to Hate Me: 14 Tales of Villainy and debuting several novels, Pitchfork reports

According to Billboard, the singer-songwriter’s new album comes in twos. The double-album R&B project, 4AM Mulholland and After 4AM, aims to showcase her maturity as an artist.

“As I was recording, I wasn’t trying to limit myself in anyway,” Amerie told Billboard when asked about the decision to release a double album. “I had just come off of writing a new story, and I wanted to go full-out into the recording process. I didn’t want the album to be a smorgasbord of sound; it needs to have a vibe, and that’s why there are two projects.”
