President Donald Trump says he fired his National Security Adviser John Bolton on Tuesday, though minutes after the announcement, Bolton tweeted he "offered to resign" Monday night. Bolton also sent text messages to Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, to read on-air during Tuesday's taping of Fox and Friends.

Trump first updated the public to the news of Bolton on Twitter, claiming the two had many disagreements on several issues.

"I informed John Bolton last night his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration," Trump tweeted on Tuesday. "I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week."

Of the countless disagreements, the two shared, most recently Bolton expressed opposition to the meeting between Trump and Taliban leaders over peace talks in Afghanistan.

The meeting received much backlash and, according to CNN, Trump was agitated by reports he faced backlash from within his administration. CNN reported Monday night Bolton and Trump got into a heated argument over the president's plan to host the Taliban leaders at Camp David. 

Bolton's exit means Trump will have to hire his fourth National Security Adviser of his first term, having gone through Bolton, Michael Flynn, and H.R. McMaster. President Obama had just three people in the position during his eight-year term and President George W. Bush had two.
