DJ Khaled just released his eleventh studio album Father of Ashad, and it does not disappoint. As expected, it features some of the biggest names in music. JAY Z, Beyonce, Nas, SZA, Buju Banton, Cardi B and Chris Brown are just a handful of artists who came together to create this album of the summer!
A particularly special stand out on the album is the track "Higher," which features John Legend and Nipsey Hussle, who shot the video just days before he was tragically killed in March. On May 16, DJ Khaled spoke with Zane Lowe at Beats 1 about having the opportunity to collaborate with the late rapper before his untimely passing.
Khaled recalled playing the beat for Nipsey and telling him, "Yo, this special. This that big boy rap, this special." Within moments, Nipsey began writing his verse and Khaled boldly told him, "We're going to win a Grammy." Speaking about the video, which was shot on a Los Angeles rooftop, Khaled said, "It's been hard for me to watch the video, and listen to the song, but also, it's very beautiful. When you see it, and hear it, you're going to understand what I'm saying. It's very beautiful because long live Nipsey Hussle. The Marathon Continues."
The hit producer announced that all proceeds from the track, "Higher," will go to Nipsey's two children, Emani and Kross.
This follow up to 2017's Grateful, is executive produced by DJ Khaled's son, two-year old Asahd Khaled, and released via We The Best / Epic Records. The 15 tracks also include the previously-released singles "Top Off," featuring Beyoncé and JAY-Z, and "No Brainer," featuring Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper and Quavo.
Khaled said he's dropping more music videos from the album. On May 17, we got the visuals for four tracks — "Just Us" featuring SZA, "Celebrate" featuring Travis Scott and Post Malone, "Jealous" featuring Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Big Sean, and "Holy Mountain" featuring Buju Banton, Sizzla, Mavado and 070 Shake.
And if that wasn't enough, Khaled gifted fans with a full Father of Asahd video itinerary:
DJ Khaled is undoubtedly a master at collaborating with our favorite artists to bring us some of the hottest tracks. And for me, this appears to be Khaled's greatest piece of work to date. The variety of sounds combined with what has become a beautiful memory of the one and only Nipsey Hussle makes Father of Asahd, worthy of the Grammy that Khaled already claimed.
