The soundtrack to Disney’s live-action The Lion King remake features six Nigerian artists — Tekno, Yemi Alade, Mr. Eazi, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage and WizKid — alongside executive producer, Beyoncé

Beyoncé has described The Lion King: The Gift as a "love letter to Africa" in an interview with Good Morning America. 

"I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa and not just use some of the sound or my own interpretation of it," she said in the interview.

According to Bloomberg, Nigeria’s music industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, expanding by 13.4% annually. WizKid is an international icon, and he was also the youngest African artist to ever be nominated for a Grammy for his work on Drake's Views in 2016. Another one of Naija's greatest performers featured on The Gift, Tiwa Savage, has been signed to a management and publishing deal with Roc Nation since 2016. 

"When you consider how big the Lion King franchise is, the album has the potential to put Afropop in the global conversation and introduce a younger generation across the world to our music," said music analyst Segun Akande to CNN. 

Additionally, Blue Ivy Carter earned her first singer/songwriter credits for her performance on “BROWN SKIN GIRL,” opening the song with her iconic vocals. She sings, "Brown skin girl, skin just like pearls, the best thing in the world, I never trade you for anybody else." The powerful song has elicited an emotional response from listeners.
