An unidentified culprit slashed a Black family's Black Santa Claus inflatable decoration days before Christmas.

Fritz and Belinda Richard lived in their Bethany, Oregon, neighborhood for 21 years without issue until an act of vandalism changed everything. On December 13, the Richards found the decoration with numerous slashes laying deflated on their yard, according to The Oregonian.

The family said it was only displayed for 24 hours before the incident. Fritz took a photo of the deflated Santa and shared it on Facebook.

“Looks like someone had a problem with our Black Santa,” Fritz wrote in the Facebook caption. “I found him this morning; someone took a knife to him. Trump is really changing this country! Is this how you make America ‘great again’, with hate crimes?”

Washington County Sheriff’s Department arrived at their home and took a report of the vandalism. However, police have yet to find the person (s) responsible for the act.

Neighbors were stunned by this hateful incident. According to local news outlet KOIN 6 News, the Richards and some of their neighbors have vowed to put up more Black Santas in protest.

“It’s exactly the opposite result I think they were looking for,” Richard said about the vandal(s). “There will be hopefully a lot of Black Santas around this neighborhood.”
