A Buffalo Creek Academy student bought his friend a new pair of sneakers after learning he was getting teased by other students.

The Buffalo, New York school prides itself on four core principles that Romello Early exhibited through his kind gesture.

The Dean of Culture, Bryant Brown Jr. said “leadership, integrity, focus, and excellence,” are what they instill in their Buffalo Creek students in grades five through eight.

Brown, Jr. shared the special moment between the boys on his personal Facebook page gaining thousands of likes, shares, and comments celebrating the act.

“My student Melo told me he was tired of other students picking on Melvin about his shoes,” Brown wrote. “Melo used his allowance and bought Melvin some shoes.”

Brown said he was made aware of the bullying after Early gifted Melvin Anderson the Black and white high-top Nike sneakers.

“His shoes weren’t up to par,” Brown told FOX. “Melvin likes to run in the mud and get his shoes dirty.”

Early described feeling sick to his stomach when he knew of his friend being bullied over his appearance.

“I could tell it was upsetting him,” Early told WGRZ. “It just put a real bad ache in my stomach to see somebody have to go through that, and to be to be picked on just based off appearance.”

“I had saved up my allowance, and so I asked my mom to take me to the shoe store to get Melvin some shoes, and the next day I came and gave them to him,” he continued.

“I’m really appreciative of what he did for me,” Anderson said. “I’m doing chores at home so I can earn some money to try and pay him back for what…what he did for me.”

Early turns to his friend and tells him to not worry about paying him back because that’s what friends do.

“You don’t have to pay me back,” Early said. “That’s just a gift from me to you.”

“When Romello did this with his allowance money, it touched my heart and I almost came to tears,” Brown Jr. said.

Putting his arm around Early, Anderson said, “This is my man … right here.”

Early’s mother, Anita James is also touched by her son’s deed telling FOX her son is passionate in all aspects of life and she couldn’t be more pleased with him.

“It’s not often that you see children give up their allowance to someone else and that let me know, Romello was protecting and trying to change the narrative for his friend Melvin,” James said. “To be so passionate at 12 years old really says a lot, but Romello is passionate in all aspects of his life family, basketball, and friends.”

Brown said he was immensely touched by the gesture and hopes this act of kindness serves as inspiration amongst other students in the building.
