A woman who was buried alive by her husband and left for dead saved her own life by using her Apple Watch to call the police for help.

There have many stories where a form of technology has been able to save lives, and this was the case for an unidentified Washington woman when her divorce took a dark turn. While she was under dirt in a shallow grave dug by her husband, Chae Kyong An, she used her Apple Watch to call 911 for help, according to Today.

Although she had duct tape tied around her neck, ankles and face, she wiggled around to continue breathing and placed the call for help. When the operator answered, they heard the muffled sounds of a woman. Eventually, she made her way out of the grave and ran to a nearby shed, using it as a hideaway until the police came.

When officers arrived on the scene around 1 a.m., she told them she was in the midst of a conversation with her husband about their divorce and finances when he snapped.

He took her to an unknown location in a van and laid her on the ground after they arrived. She then heard digging sounds before he allegedly stabbed her and placed her in the ditch. He then covered her with dirt and left her to die.

According to Rare, her 53-year-old husband is now facing multiple charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and assault.
