White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is leaving her role in the administration by the end of the month. The President confirmed the departure in a tweet where he also pushed for Sanders to consider a run for governor of her home state of Arkansas.

"She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job!" Trump tweeted. "I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic."

In response to the news of Sanders' departure, many Twitter users took to the platform to share parting words to the outgoing press secretary. Hours after the news broke, #ByeFelicia was trending on Twitter.

Sanders' tenure as press secretary has been married with allegations of her dishonesty in defense of President Trump, even having her deception come up in the Mueller report, which accused her of lying to reporters regarding the circumstances of former FBI director James Comey's firing, according to the Huffington Post.

Another part of Sanders' legacy was doing away with daily press briefings, which was a tradition that all but ended during her tenure. The last time she took questions from the White House podium was March 11, according to CNN.

"The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the 'podium' much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely [and] inaccurately, in particular, certain members of the press," Trump tweeted in January. "I told her not to bother, the word gets out anyway!"

No announcement has been made about Sanders' replacement, or if she will have another briefing before ending her tenure in the role.
