Cast And Crew Of 'Dear White People' Create Scholarship Fund In Honor Of Jordan Edwards
Dear "White People" cast: you're dope!
This week, Logan Browning of the Netflix show Dear White People posted an announcement on Instagram that the show's cast and crew have established a scholarship in Jordan Edwards' name.
'The same weekend Dear White People premiered last year we were deeply saddened by the loss of 15-year-old honor student/athlete Jordan Edwards. Jordan aspired to play football at the current NCAA champion University of Alabama. To honor his life, our cast and crew formed a scholarship fund in his name. His dream will live on through another deserving student, and #JordanEdwards will live on as more than just a hashtag. We welcome you to be a part of building his legacy at TheJordanEdwardsMemorialScholarship.com

15-year-old Jordan Edwards was shot and killed by former Texas police officer Roy Oliver while leaving a party. Edwards was sitting in the passenger seat of his brother's car, and died after being shot in the head by Oliver's rifle.
The incident happened the same weekend that Dear White People premiered, Browning notes, and the team behind the show wanted to do something to salute the fallen teen, and established The Jordan J. Edwards Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of Alabama.
The scholarship was set up at Alabama because "Jordan dreamed of attending the University of Alabama and playing football for the Crimson Tide. His ambition was to earn his degree and become a pilot."
Those administering the scholarship will look for a student athlete who, like Edwards, is not only an athlete, but "an excellent student," and its founders hope that students that receive the scholarship will "become what time and events did not allow to Jordan."
Browning writes that she hopes that through this fund, Jordan's "dream will live on through another deserving student, and #JordanEdwards will live on as more than just a hashtag."
