nullAt a time when, year-after-year, WGA reports highlight the lack of writers of color in TV series writing rooms, this could be considered a step in the right direction by Comedy Central.

The network has named Robin Thede Head Writer of the network’s upcoming, new late-night franchise "The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore."

The news was announced today by Wilmore himself, who will also Executive Produce the series.

Premiering in January 2015, "The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore" will take a comedic look at news, current events and pop culture from unique perspectives not typically on display in late-night television.

Most recently, Thede, an accomplished writer, actress, sketch and improvisational comedian, was Head Writer on "The Queen Latifah Show" and she also wrote for Chris Rock when he hosted the 2014 BET Awards. Previously, she was a writer for the first two seasons of BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood.”

Thede has also worked on several series as both a writer and performer including FOX’s sketch comedy TV series "In The Flow With Affion Crockett" (executive produced by Jamie Foxx), Mike Epps’ sketch comedy series "Funny Bidness," and the TV comedy series "Clunkers."

Her on-screen television credits include roles on"“Second Generation Wayans" (BET), "Goodwin Games" (FOX), "Hot In Cleveland" (TV Land), "All of Us" (UPN) and Comedy Central’s "Key & Peele."

Additionally, Thede has created several hugely successful viral videos, including Funny Or Die exclusives "Every Little Step" with Wayne Brady, Bobby Brown and Mike Tyson and "For (Stuffed) Colored Girls," as well as "Shit Black Guys Say."
