Authorities are investigating a shooting in Alexandria, Virginia where a suspect opened fire at a baseball practice for a Republican congressional baseball team.
Among the wounded is Rep. Steve Scalice (R-Louisiana).
Katie Filous, a witness at the scene told USA Today, "They were screaming, 'It's a shooter! He's got a rifle! Get down!' I laid down on the ground. There were a lot of shots. Maybe about 20." She saw an officer get hit, as well as a couple of people getting carried out.
Sen. Rand Paul gave credit to Capital Police, saying without them it may have been a "massacre."
Scalice, who was hit in the hip, is expected to be okay. All 5 people injured, as well as the shooting suspect, were taken to the hospital.
The shooting has sparked a debate about gun control on social media.
Y'all: I'm not here for the partisan BS right now. Gun shots fired. PEOPLE were wounded. And yes, I still want gun control!— a. rye✊???? (@angela_rye) June 14, 2017
