The Right loves their sheriffs. Despite age, logic, or controversy, it isn't easy getting rid of people like former Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

After announcing that he would run to replace Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake earlier this week, Arpaio also announced his commitment to getting to the bottom of former President Barack Obama's birth certificate.

"I am running for the US Senate from the Great State of Arizona, for one unwavering reason: to support the agenda and policies of President Donald Trump in his mission to Make America Great Again," he wrote on Twitter.

The disgraceful 85-year-old former sheriff and current Trump supporter was voted out of office in 2016, according to Buzzfeed. Arpaio was found guilty of criminal contempt by a federal judge for refusing to stop discriminatory policing tactics that were aimed at catching undocumented immigrants.

Trump repaid Arpaio loyalty by pardoning him in August of 2017 and now the former lawman will try to go to Washington D.C. to push Trump's agenda.

He told WABC radio hosts, Rita Cosby and Curtis Sliwa in a recent interview that he had proof that Obama's birth certificate was fraudulent.

“They’re (Congress) too busy talking about Russia,” Arpaio insisted referencing the ongoing Trump investigations. “We came up with some more, new information, not that we need it, but you’ll hear more about it.”

Birthers like Arpaio—- and Trump for that matter—- stoked the flames of racist vitriol aimed at Obama. Their attack insinuated that Obama was not truly American and, if proven, his presidency would be considered illegitimate.

Even though there has been substantial info proving Obama was indeed born in America, Trump and Arpaio believed otherwise.

“I’m not gonna back down on this. I don’t care if I lose elections or anything,” said Arpaio. “I’m going to tell you again that that document is a forgery.”

Now, he is using birtherism as a political platform. If he wins, he promises to introduce legislation to prevent "another presidency like Obama's."

“I want to get it to Congress. I want to get it to Congress so they can pass some type of law, regulation, that when somebody runs for president, you oughta check their background, so this won’t happen again,” Arpaio stated.
