Ulysha Renee Hall will make major history in September when she becomes the very first female police chief for the Dallas Police Department. This is a huge first in the city's 176-year history. Hall has served 19 years in law enforcement — including her former position as deputy police chief in her hometown of Detroit.
The law enforcement career runs in Hall's family. Her father was also a police officer but was sadly killed in the line of duty in 1971 while working with a specialized police force to crack down on prostitution. Hall explained to CBS Dallas/Fort Worth that her father's death makes her even more cautious about the lives of police officers when they're on the job. Hall explained that she doesn't want to lose any officers on her watch.
Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax described Hall as an experienced and proven leader, adding that the city is very happy about the new appointment to the police department.
