If you recall earlier this month I wrote about Darryl Roberts’ 2007 documentary America The Beautiful of which as I said “chronicled the sudden rise and steep fall modeling career of a back then, 12 year old professional model, Gerren Taylor, who suffered a near mental breakdown and major self-esteem issues, when, at age 14, her career came to a sudden halt”.

But the film expands its subject to deal with “America’s morbid fascination with youth and beauty, and how the beauty industry makes billions manipulating women (and men as well) into feeling insecure about themselves”.

The film still remains one of the most financially successful self distributed documentaries in recent years.

Not surprisingly the success of the doc has spawned a sequel, America The Beautiful 2, which further delves into its subject, and the film will make its premiere for a one week run in New York on October 12, at the Quad Theater on 34 West 13th Street to be followed by a one week run in L.A. starting on October 14 at the Laemmle Sunset 5 on 8000 West Sunset Blvd.

Afterward the film will continue its run with plan to open in 25 cities at film festival screenings, and, to date, at over 300 one night screenings hosted by universities, eating disorder clinics and social organizations.

Once again, here’s th trailer for the new film:
