Over the past decade, the Somalian government and its people have been fighting against disastrous acts of terror caused by the al-Shabib extremist group. Over the weekend, the fearful reality of that terror struck a deadly blow, literally, and has left hundreds in disarray.
On Saturday, a truck loaded with explosives (deliberately) collided with a fuel truck, in the city of Mogadishu, creating a blast so impactful, it instantly killed hundreds and injured dozens more. It is also claimed that a second blast occurred soon after taking more innocent lives.
It is believed that, with the number of casualties instantly from the explosions, the number of lives that perished after, due to blast injuries, and the dozens of undiscovered and otherwise unidentified bodies, that the actual casualty count could be as high as 500+ people.
Funerals are being held in the capital, as many families are gathering to mourn the loss of their loved ones.
We extend our deepest empathy and condolences to all who have been affected by this devastating loss.
