Everyone’s already given the Grammys an earful about not knowing the difference between an Album of the Year and an Album People Thought Was Decent.

Drake figured he might as well throw in his two loonies, telling OVO Sound on Beats 1 that he feels that this year, the Academy was “trying to purposefully alienate me by making me win rap awards.”

He continued, saying, “Even though “Hotline Bling” is not a rap song, the only category they can manage to fit me in is a rap category, maybe because I’ve rapped in the past or because I’m black. I can’t figure out why.”

The rapper also echoed a common complaint leveled at the Grammys — that the Academy prioritizes other forms of music over hip-hop. “I was pitched by the Grammys to … go sit in the audience to lose because they don’t air the other rap awards on TV.”

And because why not, or maybe because adding a tangentially related topic onto a jeremiad is exactly what Kanye himself would do, Drake finished the interview with a few choice words for Mr. Kardashian-West. “I’m not really sure what he’s referring to half the time, because in the same breath I went from being working on a project with him, to him sort of publicly shitting on me and DJ Khaled for being on the radio too much.”

While Drake did said to Kanye, “whatever it is that you’re going through, I accept it,” he made sure to make it very clear that, “I don’t respect it at all.”
