Dwyane Wade says he's appreciative of boxing legend Mike Tyson coming to his family's defense during a previous conversation with rapper Boosie.

The former heavyweight boxer and Boosie chopped it up on the podcast Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson where the two discussed the rapper's anti-trans comments and criticism of Wade's daughter, Zaya, as Blavity previously reported

During the interview, Tyson addressed Boosie, asking him, "If you are straight, why do you offend people?"

Afterward, Tyson told TMZ that the Louisiana native needs to learn how to "win the fight over those demons."

Now, months later, Wade has chimed in on their conversation, applauding Tyson for dropping gems during their conversation, Today reported

“I actually talked to Mike about that earlier in the pandemic, we had a conversation. I appreciated it from the standpoint of Mike is someone who has never tried to be perfect,” Wade said.

“He is someone who has learned from this journey of life. He’s one of those people… he’s so smart, he’s so educated and knowledgeable about life. And for him to be able to drop that nugget on the world, to me, it was great to hear him say that,” he added.

The retired basketball player has remained by his daughter's side since the family announced her as transgender on The Ellen Show back in February.

The family threw their support behind Zaya and has remained allies of the LGBTQ+ community.

Gabrielle Union, Zaya's step-mother, posted on Twitter introducing Zaya to the world.

"Meet Zaya. She's compassionate, loving, whip smart and we are so proud of her. It's Ok to Listen to, love & respect your children exactly as they are. Love and light good people," she wrote.

Despite the family's unwavering support, however, Wade said he's aware there will be haters along the way.

“I understand that everyone has their own path and journey towards accepting things. I’ve never came out and said anything to anybody that feels a certain way about me or someone else in my family or my loved ones because they don’t know us, they don’t know our hearts, they definitely don’t know Zaya,” he added. “All I do is what my mama say, just pray for them.”

While on Good Morning America, Wade addressed the importance of having Zaya's back despite the opinions of others.

"We understand we have to protect each other. We get amazing support from people. We get a lot of hate from people. But along the way—we, inside, together as the Wade family—we have to be the ones that have each other's back. And for us, it's important that Zaya understood that her family has her back from the world and what people will say and think," Wade told GMA host Robin Roberts

After the Wade family revealed Zaya was transgender, Boosie slammed the father for his parenting.

"I gotta say something about this s**t, bro. Dwyane Wade, you gone too f**king far, dawg," Boosie said back in February. "That is a male. A 12-year-old. At 12, they don’t even know what they next meal gon' be. They don’t have s**t figured out yet. He might meet a woman, anything, at 16 and fall in love with her. But his d**k be gone — how he gon' — like, bruh, you going too far, dawg."

But when asked by Tyson why he felt it was his place to comment on Zaya, the rapper referenced her age.

“I commented on the Dwyane Wade situation because it's a child. That's why I got offended,” the rapper said. “I felt like a child at 12, can't make that decision. That's how I feel. I just feel like, that was going too far.”

Now that it's been made clear that Wade is here for the support, and praying for the haters, we hope that everyone can just stay in their place.
