Elaine Welteroth, the leading force behind Teen Vogue, announced her departure from the magazine on Thursday.
Welteroth sent an internal email to the brand's employees, according to The Hollywood Reporter who reported that the former EIC also signed with the Creative Artists Agency.
The brand also recently ended Teen Vogue's print edition in November, despite it's the spike in growth and impact it has seen as of late.
Welteroth was officially announced the editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue in April 2016, making history by becoming the youngest person in that role and only the second African-American to serve in the EIC role at Conde Nast.
"We talked to Elaine about a number of different opportunities but ultimately she decided to go in a different direction," Conde Nast said in a statement to Fashionista.com. "She was instrumental in the successful launch of the Teen Vogue Summit and know that she will carry that same passion and enthusiasm into her next venture. We wish her all the best in what we know will be an incredible career."
Welteroth has expanded the Teen Vogue's content to include coverage beyond beauty and fashion to provide storytelling around social justice, political and cultural issues. She also recently hosted the first-ever Teen Vogue Summit in December which featured influential speakers and celebrities like Hillary Clinton, Rep. Maxine Waters, Ava DuVernay, Yara Shahidi and others.
