His mother, Pat Smith, congratulated her son on joining the fraternity. She was especially proud as he is following in the footsteps of his grandfather and great-grandfather.

“Last night was super special and emotional for so many reasons!” she wrote. “Our son, EJ, became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated … the same fraternity that my Daddy Duke and his grandfather belonged to for over 60 years!!! I’m a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Incorporated … and the men of Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity are our beloved brothers!!!”

“My Daddy Duke would have been beaming from ear to ear to witness this moment!!! He absolutely loved EJ … this definitely would have been one of his proudest moments!!!! His Legacy Continues!!!!”

Pat posted photographs of the whole family celebrating together.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity is a part of the Divine Nine, historically Black fraternities and sororities. It was the first intercollegiate Black fraternity to be founded at an HBCU — in this case, Howard University in 1911.

Congratulations E.J.!
