Actor Jussie Smollett was reportedly hospitalized after a homophobic attack by MAGA supporters, according to TMZ.

The attack, initially reported on by That Grape Juice, occurred at 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) confirmed the attack in a statement obtained by Blavity. The assailants allegedly used racist and homophobic slurs to catch the 35-year-old's attention as he walked down a street.

TMZ reports the perpetrators yelled, "Aren't you that f****t 'Empire' n****r?" and "This is MAGA country."

The attackers then reportedly struck the actor in his face and poured bleach on his body. They also wrapped a rope around his neck.

The Empire star was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and later released, according to TMZ. CPD said the actor is physically in "good condition." They're investigating the incident and Smollett is cooperating with the investigation.

“Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime,” CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.

“Detectives are currently working to gather video, identify potential witnesses and establish an investigative timeline.”

A letter addressed to Smollett was reportedly sent to Fox Studios over a week ago, with the note, "You will die Black f*g."
