Colman Domingo is entrenched in Oscar buzz, in large part due to his acclaimed turn as gay civil rights icon Bayard Rustin in Netflix’s Rustin as well as his supporting turn in Blitz Bazawule’s adaptation of The Color Purple musical.

But Domingo is also taking time to talk about his Emmy-winning role on HBO’s Euphoria. 

In an interview with The Independent, Domingo is responding to reports that season 2 of Euphoria was a toxic work environment due to the mistreatment of the actors.

“I’m not gonna invalidate [anyone’s] experience. But working in television is long hours,” Domingo said. “Sometimes you work up to 14 hours a day. And then you have to go home and prep. You have to really live and work in a very methodical way. A lot of young actors may not be up for the task, or have that same work ethic.”

On Euphoria, Domingo portrayed the role of Ali Muhammad, a mentor to Rue who is recovering from drug addiction. For his performance, Domingo won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2022.

“I’ve been in this business for 32 years,” Domingo continued. “I know what hard work is. So when I heard those ‘reports,’ I thought, ‘Where is this coming from? That’s just a normal work day.’ Be a professional.”

In the interview, Domingo went on to praise series creator Sam Levinson.

“There’s no one that’s going to mistreat you on the set of Euphoria,” Domingo said. “Sam Levinson is joyful, and collaborative, and could not be a bigger advocate for his actors.”

When is ‘Euphoria’ coming back

Euphoria season 3 is expected to return in 2025.
