Gabourey Sidibe’s career in film and television began with her acclaimed debut performance as Claireece “Precious” Jones in the 2009 film Precious, for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. However, the actress acknowledged that she didn’t receive the same opportunities as another actress around her age.

In a new interview with Collider, Sidibe revealed that opportunities in Hollywood didn’t open up for her in the same way they did for Anna Kendrick. she was also nominated the same year as Sidibe in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Up In The Air.

“I’ve heard the idea that I’m just lucky before. I’ve heard that. I’m an extremely unlucky person, actually. I work really, really hard though,” she said. “And no, the Hollywood seas didn’t part for me in the same way that it might have for maybe Anna Kendrick who was nominated for the first time that year as well, who then went on to star in films and television and the whole thing.”

However, Sidibe acknowledges how she has made a career in film and television a decade later.

“The seas did not part that same way for me and I assume that there are a few factors that made that so, but I am still working 10 years later,” she concluded.

Since her role in Precious, Sidibe went on to star in Empire, American Horror Story and her latest film, Antebellum.
