John Boyega is fighting aliens once again in Attack The Block 2, coming from Studiocanal, Complete Fiction Pictures, Film4 and Boyega’s UpperRoom Productions, according to Deadline. Boyega will reprise his role as Moses.
Joe Cornish, who wrote the 2011 original film, will write and direct the second film and will produce with Boyega. So far, nothing about the sequel’s plot has been revealed.
“It’s been a decade since Attack The Block was released and so much has changed since then,” said Boyega in a statement. “I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour.”
“I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack The Bloc on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release,” said Cornish in a statement. “I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”
Also producing with Boyega and Cornish is Nira Park through Park, Cornish and Edgar Wright’s Complete Fiction production company, and James Wilson, teaming the original film’s producers back together.
Boyega is also working on The Formula, co-starring Robert De Niro and directed by Gerald McMurray. The film will focus on a Formula Racing prodigy who is forced to drive a getaway car for a criminal in order to save his family.
Boyega has also given a critically-acclaimed performance in 2020’s Red, White and Blue, the third of Steve McQueen’s Small Axe series. Speaking with Shadow And Act, Boyega said that the film “shines a light on the fact that nothing has changed in a very long time and that is the alarming thing…And for us, especially as Black people, to get ths kind of insight and perspective at this time, before any of this [the pandemic and BLM protests] happened when we were making this, we saw it as a way of shining a light on a perspective that we don’t get to see often.”
