The first teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming Warner Bros/DC Comics film, Joker. The film is an origin story, starring Joaquin Phoenix. The teaser drop comes after footage of the film debuted Tuesday at CinemaCon.

Zazie Beetz stars as his love interest, a single mother named Sophie Dumond. The teaser also reveals that Brian Tyree Henry also appears in the film, a fact that was not previously known. Robert De Niro, Bill Camp and Shea Whigham also star.

While we are still unsure of the film’s exact plot, the movie has been previously described as a “dark character study” instead of a crime thriller, that is “more moderately budgeted and darker than the studio’s other DC-based movies, known as the DC Cinematic Universe.”

The film has a release date of October 4, 2019.
