Nine Days, starring Winston Duke and Zazie Beetz, will not come out until summer 2021 via Sony Pictures Classics.

As reported by Varietyit will not be released on Jan. 22, 2021. It will no longer qualify for the Oscars but will still be able to get nominations for the  2021 Film Independent Spirit Awards. It is a move that is not surprising, giving how the movie is a “theatrical” experience.

Nine Days is an important movie that was always meant to be seen on the big screen first, so (we decided) to move the date back to a time when we hope more theaters are open safely and people are more comfortable returning to theaters,” said Sony Pictures Classics.

Nine Days is about celebrating life and human connection,” said writer and director Edson Oda also said in a statement. “I’m thrilled that audiences will also be able to have that experience in the movie theater next summer.”

Here’s the official description of the film: In a house distant from the reality we know, a reclusive man interviews prospective candidates—personifications of human souls—for the privilege that he once had: to be born.

Bill Skarsgard and Benedict Wong also star.
