By now, the world has heard about The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah’s arrest. Shah is accused of being part of a telemarketing scheme that defrauded hundreds of people, many of whom are over the age of 55.
Shah’s assistant, Stuart Smith, was also arrested and charged. Both Shah, 47, and Smith, 43, appeared before the court in Salt Lake City. Per CNN, have both been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud – as well as one count of conspiracy to commit money.
Prosecutors did not ask for Shah or Smith to remain in custody. A judge ordered them to be released without bond. The terms of the release include prohibiting the pair from engaging in telemarketing while their case is pending. They also are not allowed to move more than $10,000 out of their personal bank accounts without permission from prosecutors and they must remain in Utah.
While the charges are shocking, social media users are more concerned with Shah’s appearance. Shah, who is said to be of Tongan and Hawaiian descent, showed up to court in box braids. Twitter users found her decision to be epic and hilarious and spared no expense while discussing such online.
This is a top tier Bravo moment. I can’t believe this chick had the audacity to get arrested in box braids. Federal fraud charges mean you likely have some notice that shit is about to get real and she got braids and dressed like she did as a notably non black woman..???????????? https://t.co/72dtQfTTLC
