In the last 24 hours or so, the film blogosphere has been in a bit of tizzy over a rumor that John Boyega was joining the Marvel cinematic universe with a role in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther movie.
Quite frankly, I don’t even know with certainty where the story originated, but several readers sent me links to various other sites that wrote about it; however, I couldn’t verify the source, so I didn’t publish the information here.
Below is a screen capture of my Google search on the subject, if only to give you a sample of how much the rumor traveled.
It’s just the nature of the web for this kind of story to spread rapidly and over a very short period of time, and it definitely did apparently – enough that Boyega’s manager, Femi Oguns, took to Twitter very early this morning, to share the following:
My client @JohnBoyega will not be starring in Black Panther. Now for the news…

So John Boyega will not be appearing in “Black Panther,” even though, I’m sure, a lot of us would love to see him in the upcoming movie. Now it certainly doesn’t mean that Boyega will never appear in a Marvel movie. Anything is possible! It may not be Black Panther; or, as some have argued, maybe it will be Black Panther, and Oguns is simply being coy. Who knows!? What we do know at this time is what we’re being told by someone who would most certainly know – that John Boyega is not going to appear in “Black Panther.
“Now for the news…”
