A recent episode of Sesame Street brightened one mother’s day due to its segment on Black natural hair care.

Representation matters on national and international platforms for all to see. Why? Because when a child or person sees someone who looks like them in the role of a superhero or as the lead in The Little Mermaid, becomes the vice president of the United States, wins the first NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, or opens a business in an underrepresented industry for minorities, the idea that the sky is the limit becomes a reality.

On June 6, TikTok user @haiamabeauty was watching an episode of the long-running PBS show, which celebrates 54 years on the air in November, with her child when she saw something that warmed her heart: someone who wears her hair natural. During the episode, there was a scene that highlighted the washing process of a muppet of color, who was getting her hair done by her aunt. The niece had natural hair and talked viewers through each step of her natural-hair routine. So happy to see representation, the mother posted a nine-second video of the scene and shared it on TikTok with the following caption: “@Sesame Street leading the way! I loved watching this episode with my kid. ➿💕🙌🏾 “

“My auntie rinses the regular conditioner out and puts leave-in conditioner in and detangles my hair one more time,” the niece muppet says in the short clip.

The video quickly spread and has been viewed a million times. Other users were excited to see content like this on a kids’ show as well. “Sesame Street was ALWAYSSSSSSSSS for US! ✊🏾,” a commenter agreed.

“And in the sink?!? The accuracy!!!! 😂 Love it,” another person commented.

“Love this for our babies 🥰” someone else wrote. Catch the adorable moment below:
