Season 2 of This Is Us captured the eyes, hearts and tear ducts of many viewers across the country for its depiction of a blended family. We’ve seen the Pearsons tackle issues that ranged from racism to anxiety and grief, especially following the death of patriarch Jack Pearson. With the third season of the acclaimed drama set to premiere on NBC this fall, one of the show’s stars is dispelling rumors of an integral character’s possible death.

Susan Kelechi Watson, who portrays Beth Pearson, has put rumors to rest that her character will meet an untimely demise by the time the third season of This Is Us rolls around. For those unfamiliar, the second season finale of the hit drama contained a scene in which an elderly Randall Pearson, as portrayed by Sterling K. Brown, telling his adult daughter Tess, “It’s time to go see her,” to which Tess replied, “I’m not ready.”

Many of the show’s die-hard fans speculated that the father and daughter duo were going to a cemetery. Watson, however, responded to rumors that her character would die with sarcasm and much-needed humor, mainly referring to a time in which her mom threatened to refuse to watch the show.

“My mom was like, ‘I’m not going to watch this show next season,’” Watson said told Entertainment Weekly. “I was like, ‘Why?’ She’s like, ‘Because they’re going to kill you, and I don’t like it.’ And I was like, ‘Mom, they’re not going to kill me!’ Dan (Fogelman, the show’s creator) and I spoke about it — they’re not going to kill Beth. She’s going to survive.” News of Beth’s guaranteed survival on This Is Us is sure to be a sigh of relief for many fans, as we’re still getting over the untimely demise of Jack Pearson, as played by Milo Ventimiglia.
