Yes, Tessa!
Here’s a new look of Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok! In this exclusive shot from Entertainment Weekly, she’s facing off with Loki.
On the scene, Thompson said, “That fight was so much fun. So much fun. First of all. the choreography was really punchy and physical, not as much sword work which sort of keeps you at arm’s length with people. I think because Tom’s character is involved there’s a cheekiness to that fight that made it just really fun — it just felt like a tennis match. I don’t know if it remains but there were a lot of one-liners between us. So it has a real sort of sense of humor,” said Thompson.
On Valkyrie and Thor’s relationship, she said: “Eventually she figures out Lok’s not to be trusted. I just think there’s something about two folks that kind of come from the same place in a sense, that have the same chip on their shoulder in a way. There’s a thin line between how much they hate and love each other.”
In Marvel lore, Valkyrie is an Asgardian by birth, also known by her real name, Brunnhilde. She was selected by Odin to lead the Valkyrior. Among her other aliases are Barbara Denton-Norriss, Samantha Parrington, Sian Bowen, and Annabelle Riggs who were all host bodies to the spirit of Brunnhilde. She is also an ally and one-time love interest of Thor. Her superhero abilities include: superhuman strength, endurance and the ability to convey spirits of the dead.
The rest of the cast boasts an impressive group of actors including, of course, Chris Hemsworth as Thor himself, Cate Blanchett (playing the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela), Jeff Goldblum (as the eccentric Grandmaster), Karl Urban as Skurge.
Mark Ruffalo will also appear in the film, reprising his role of Bruce Banner/the Hulk from Marvel’s The Avengers and Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment of Marvel’s popular Norse Super Hero, is directed by Taika Waititi (“Two Cars, One Night,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”). Kevin Feige produces the film, joined by executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee.
A release date is set for November 3, 2017.
